Home Hosting - Try It; You'll Like It!

A Russian guest interested in aviation visits a flight simulator in the Triad.

Our Japanese guests visit the North American exhibit at the NC Zoo and learn about the bison.

A young Turkish guest learns how to prepare a s'more.

Australia!

The Land Down Under.  Would you love to visit there, but find such travel impractical at this time?

Home hosting an Australian guest is the next best thing to being there!  For example, you may learn the meaning of, “bring your cossie to the barbie this arvo,” taste vegemite and lamington, and discover the impact of immigration on this country in the last fifty years.  In fact “home hosting” provides the opportunity to become acquainted with the people and culture of another country without leaving your living room.

Home hosting has additional benefits often overlooked.  As the host of a foreign visitor you will see your own country through different eyes.  You may find yourself visiting places in North Carolina you have never been before or learning facts of US history you did not know.

As a Friendship Force club we typically host an in-bound exchange every year or two.  From May 21 – 28, 2010, we will host a group of Australian visitors here in the Triad.  Home hosting typically involves opening your home to one or two guests and providing some meals and transportation during the course of their stay.  Some activities will be planned by our FF club here in Central North Carolina. On days that club activities have not been planned, you are free to plan excursions involving your guests’ specific interests.

Day hosting is also an option.  Individuals who day host escort one or more guests for a day.  This is especially helpful for home hosts who may not be available to accompany their guests every day of their stay.

Home hosting experiences often lead to lasting friendships and the opportunity to visit your new friends in their country.  For more information about our next in-bound exchange, please visit the Exchanges page.
